How Our Goats Are Raised

Our ranch is an investment; an investment in our children's future. We have made a commitment to keep this land, our livestock and our family healthy and growing.

Our goats are raised on high alpine meadow grass in the Siskiyou Mountains of Northern CA , under the shadow of Mount Shasta . They are born and spend all of their lives under the skies and in the fresh air, we NEVER barn or confine our goats to small spaces, unless for a short time while being moved or separated for health reasons. Bob, Crystal and I are all veterinary technicians and all the ranch vet work is done by us, using only natural and holistic methods whenever possible. Any goat that does need to be doctored with antibiotics is tagged and marked for sale at auction; they never go into our meats program, not even for pet food. We worm using diatomaceous earth and plenty of clean, fresh pastures. Pastures that are healthy and not over-crowded do not lend themselves to sick animals! We do run four herds during the breeding season, and use our Border Collies to move the stock quietly from field to field.

Our chevon goats are fed on their dams right up to harvest. We never feed grain to any goats, other than our family milk goats. Our chevon kids are harvested at 85lbs, and about 4 months old. We do vaccinate our does, but not the kids, this is not the usual practice; however our goats and the goats in our “Partnership for Excellence” program are following this procedure to assure our customers of a healthy, safe meat.

It has long been our tradition to never sell any meat we would not serve our own family. We raised and ate beef for 25 years before we learned the healthy difference of goat meat. Once we tasted it, we have never gone back to beef. Even our teenage boys, my best recipe critics; prefer the chevon to beef.

Why not start your own family tradition tonight?
