News at  Copeland Family Farms

A couple of other sites are confused about the term "chevon" which is the American term for "goat meat" just as "beef" is the American term for cattle meat. Please know all our chevon is from 2-6 month old young, milk fed kid goats, NOT old goat. "chivre" is the term for old goat, cabrito the Spanish term for kid goat, and Chevre the Latin or French term for "goat" of any age.

Yolks so full of flavor and color, You can almost see the sunshine in them! $3:99 per dozen Copeland Family Farms, LLC now offers ranch-fresh, ranch -raised brown eggs. Your eggs are collected the day before they are shipped. Our Cherry Egger and Production Red hens lay year round, guaranteeing you the freshest eggs possible. Hens are raised on pasture and in the open. We collect eggs twice a day feed only a little organic whole wheat to keep them in close to lay their eggs in the straw. Out in the sunshine every day, with plenty of grass and greens to eat, the yolks are orange in color and full of a hearty flavor unlike any you can find even in other pasture fed chickens. Our eggs are not washed. Hens put a protective shield on their eggs just prior to laying the egg. Commercial eggs washed with harsh chemicals remove this protection and open the pours in the

If you want to continue to eat locally grown foods please respond: We need to react strongly to the Food Safety bill, likely to be passed in September. The problem is, this bill applies the same regulations to small farms as it does to large agribusiness, and could put many farmers, CSA's and artisan producers out of business, due to expensive and truly oppressive regulations. The regulatory list in my piece applies to every single product the farmer might sell, and is not exhaustive. I just lifted the wording from the legislation, a bill that is hundreds of pages long. Small farmers need to be exempted. (I was told by my Congressman's office - before the House version passed - that they would be exempted, but in fact they were not.) The bill says small farmers must be "considered" in rule-making, but the FDA can still do whatever it wants after having "considered" things. Farmers need better protection than that. To find out why and what we can do about it, please read my (short) piece. Maybe with the elections coming up, if enough people around the country make a stink, our Senators might listen to us. (Big business is only too happy to have this bill pass, because it will hurt their competition. Think Food, Inc. King Corn. Etc. ) Please pass this on to those you know who value farmers' markets, local food, and may even be farmers themselves. thanks, Lynn http://www.mailtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100829/OPINION/8290302/-1/OPINION04

Lean Lamb anyone? We are contemplating adding Icelandic lamb to our menu items. These are NOT American Lambs, but a leaner, healthier meat. While not as lean as chevon, it has the distinctive lamb flavor that so many enjoy. Please send us a note if interested, and we will see about harvesting some Icelandic Lambs raised right here in Northern CA by our neighbors. AS all our products, they are raised all naturally, no antibiotics, steroids, hormones, grain or animal by-products EVER fed to lambs or ewes.

Thank you Chris for your nice comments! Please don't hesitate to call if you think shiping is too much, this shipping calculator is not quite accurate all the time. Hi Again Dusty, Just wanted to let you know that we've been eating our way through the variety of meat cuts we got on our first order and no goat will ever sleep soundly with us around. It's fantastic. We started with the breakfast links, which are marvelous. Then I took the cutlets and made mushroom risotto with chevon medallions. With the rest I made puffed pastries with goat meat, mushrooms, asparagus and cheese. Either of those I'd be comfortable serving in a four star restaurant. Today I just took a roast off the grill. Smoked it from a wood/charcoal fire grill and we both decided it was some of the best meat we've ever eaten. A taste that's better than beef and fat and calories of chicken. I'm just amazed it's not more popular in the US. I am really, really glad I called about that shipping issue. Thanks for working with me. You've made a new customer until I can start raising our own goats and find somewhere to get them processed. Even then I won't have the stuff to make sausage, so you'll for sure keep us for breakfast links.
